Three Feminist Protestors Sent to Solitary Confinement
By IHRV | October 6, 2008

According to information received from the city of Sanandaj, Ronak Safarzadeh, Hana Abdi, and Fatemeh Goftari, feminist activists, cultural and social council members of Kurdistan Azarmehr Women and activists in the 1,000,000 signature petition campaign who had joined the line of protestors, lost three weeks of visiting rights and were transferred to solitary confinement.
Readers are reminded that Ms. Safarzadeh, a student and feminist activist, was arrested in her residence last year on 17 Mehr (October 9) and charged with association with the 1,000,000 signature petition campaign. Exactly 27 days later, Ms. Abdi, who is also a feminist activist, was arrested in connection with the same charge. Considering that in Iran civil rights activists, women and students under any excuses are charged with “activities against national security”, Ms. Safarzadeh and Ms. Abdi will likely be charged with the same.
Latest reports by the committee activists in Sanandaj indicates that three of the activists’ conditions are critical, and they insist on continuing with their hunger strike.
