Although it has been only two weeks since Fighting Violence against Women Day, the news shows that everyday many fall victim to this type of violence. This time, two women in Mahabad and Piranshahr, in response to widespread violence against women, ended their lives by committing suicide.
On December 10th, in Majboor Abad region of Mahabad, a young woman named Shahin Mohammad Amin Aghdam committed suicide by swallowing different drugs. She had resorted to living in her father’s house because of her husband’s abusive behavior, but she faced even harsher violence and ultimately killed herself.
Furthermore, on Sunday December 9th, another woman called Sahar, a citizen of the Farhangian district in Piranshahr, after she had been beaten by her husband, killed herself by strangulation.
