In a Sign of Protest against Statements Made by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Students Suspended from Studies Held a Gathering in front of the Ministry of Education

By IHRV | June 10, 2009

On Saturday, June 6, a group of students suspended from their universities, including profiled and expelled students, protested statements made by Mr. Ahmadinejad and held a gathering in front of the Ministry of Education.  Mr. Ahmadinejad has stated that no students have been profiled or expelled during the reign of the ninth administration.

Students held signs that read: “Mr. President, why the lie????”, “Mr. Ahmadinejad, I am a profiled student”, “Education is our right as a human being”, “Six term suspension, for what offense?”, “Students’ justice share, three markings”, and “Education is denied to expelled students”.  The protesting students also wore three stars to symbolize the profiling marking.

Readers are reminded that Mr. Zahedi, the Minister of Education in the ninth administration, had denied the existence of marked and profiled students, and that during Mr. Ahmadinejad’s presidential debate, broadcasted on television, he attributed the profiling of students to the administration of Mr. Moein , Minister of Education under the previous administration.  The Right for Education Defense Council recently published a report of 60 profiled students with markings in their school records, 57 of whom had been profiled during Mr. Ahmadinejad’s administration.

Furthermore, during the last four years, more than 800 disciplinary warrants have been issued against student activists, and some of the students were suspended for 6 terms, leading to their expulsion from their universities.  A number of other student activists who have been detained in recent past were expelled from the school after their release.
