Fatemeh Samsarpour, A Woman Shot to Death by Military Guards
By IHRV | October 28, 2009
Another victim from the bloody events of last June in Iran was recently identified.
On June 20, Ms. Fatemeh Samsarpour, while accompanying her child, Kaveh Mir-Asadullahi, was shot by sharp shooters belonging to the Revolutionary Guard Corps, and both sustained injuries.
According to neighbors, Fatemeh, along with her child, had been watching the unfolding street demonstrations while standing in front of their house, and she was offering her assistance to people seeking shelter, and when the shooting started she had been covering her child.
Fatemeh and her young son were shot, and they were taken to the hospital by bystanders. Doctors at the hospital were only able to save Fatemeh’s son; she did not survive the shooting. After interventions by Fatemeh’s family members, her body was finally released to her family under the condition, that there would not be any mourning ceremonies in Tehran. The family was forced to move the body to another town in northern Iran, where a small ceremony was held and she was laid to rest.
It has been speculated that some time after the incident, agents belonging to security organizations paid a visit to the residence of the dead woman and suggested the family press charges against candidates disputing the election results, but the family turned down the offer. Similar tactics have been used with most of the victims’ family members, and while families were banned from holding mourning ceremonies, they were also pressured to register complaints against Mr. Mousavi and Mr. Karoubi.
