Raiding Defenseless Prisoners in Gohar Dasht Prison in Karaj by Militia and Prison Guards

By IHRV | November 19, 2009

Following a raid by militia forces and prison guards against defenseless prisoners in section 1 of Gohar Dasht Prison (Rajaei Shahr), infamously known as “The End of the Line” section, prisoners in this section were assaulted, resulting in number of injuries and broken bones. On Saturday, November 14, militia forces attacked the prisoners inside the hall in section 1, and beat the prisoners with their batons.  The situation became even bleaker when the prison guards also joined the raid.   A number of prisoners suffered broken fingers and other injuries.  A prisoner identified as Bahram Tasviri received the brunt of the baton strikes, and the extent of the assault was so violent that one militia member’s baton broke.  Mr. Tasviri sustained multiple injuries in different parts of his body, and he also bled heavily.   Mr. Tasviri, with broken fingers and with visible signs of injuries to his body, was transferred to solitary confinement inside section 5. Mr. Tasviri was among a number of prisoners who were being held in solitary confinement inside section 1 when the section came under the authorities’ control.   Readers are reminded that the raid was organized to settle scores with prisoners who had taken over the torture chamber in section 1.
