French Assistant Professor on Trial in Iran
By IHRV | November 21, 2009
Clotilde Reiss, a French assistant professor in Isfehan University who was detained after the presidential election in Iran, appeared in the Revolutionary Court in Tehran on Tuesday, November 17. The court has not issued any ruling in this case.
Ms. Reis’s initial hearing was held on August 10, and she managed to get out of Evin Prison after posting a bond; since then, she has been living inside the French embassy compound in Tehran. Ms. Reiss has been charged with collecting intelligence and encouraging rebels. On July 1, Ms. Reiss was detained while she was taking photographs with her mobile phone from a mass rally in city of Isfehan and sent to Evin Prison.
On November 17, Bernard Weller, the spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry in Paris, said: “Reiss appeared in the court, and later she returned to the embassy. We want her released and returned to France”.
Rémi Reiss, the father of 24-year old Ms. Reiss, in an interview with the Channel 3 French Television network said that he had a telephone conversation with his daughter following the court session, and that she sounded well. Mr. Reiss added that her daughter was more positive about the court setting this time compared to her last court session.
