Total of 18 Terms of Suspension for Students in Payam Nour University in Mash-Had

By IHRV | December 9, 2009

The disciplinary committee in Payam Nour University has issued harsh sentences against 12 students opposing the administration, which they charge with election fraud.

Following a students protest against a speech by Hamid Rasaei, a government supporter in Payam Nour University in the city of Mash-Had, the disciplinary committee in this school held a session on October 30.  The session was held without representation of students or the presence of the accused students to offer a defense on their own behalf, and at the end of the session, the students were sentenced to a total of 18 terms of suspension.

Six students were sentenced to one-term suspensions and six others were suspended for two terms.

Among the students receiving two-term suspensions were the chairman of the of Islamic Society and the chairman the organization’s political desk, along with four other active members from the organization.

Readers are reminded that on October 26, the presence of Mr. Rasaei in the university, representing the government, led to many protests by university students.  Also, as the event was being videotaped to show pro-government student support, some confrontations and tense incidents occurred, forcing a closure of all Monday’s classes.
