By IHRV | December 19, 2009
Ali Kalai, a member of the Human Rights Committee, has been sentenced by Court No. 10 of the Enghelab Court system, to one year in prison, suspended for the time being for two years. He was arrested in front of Tehran University on December 4th for charges of organizing and participating in protest gatherings against the Islamic Regime. He was in custody for 57 days, until he was released on an 80 million tomans bail bond.
Kalai has been exonerated from charges including “membership in and support of anti-regime groups” and “organizing groups and conspiring against national security”, but was convicted and sentenced to a year of suspended imprisonment for “propagandizing against the regime”. The evidence the court referred to when issuing this sentence was what Kalai had previously published in his personal blog.
