Abed Tavancheh Sentenced to One-Year Jail Term

Abed Tavancheh is a leftist activist and a web publisher who was expelled from Polytechnic University who was also a publisher of student newsletter called Osyan. Branch one of the Revolutionary Court, headed by Omran Azizz, sentenced Mr. Tavancheh to a one-year jail term.
Naser Zarafshan, the lawyer who defended Mr. Tavancheh, said the main charge against his client was an interview that Mr. Tavancheh conducted with Spiegel Magazine last September, in which he discussed the crisis inside the universities. In connection with Mr. Tavancheh’s interview, he was charged with attempts against national security and received one-year jail term.
During Mr. Tavancheh’s trial, which was held on October 31, charges against him included insulting the Supreme Leader, insulting the Presidency, insulting the members of the Guardian Council, spreading propaganda against the regime, attempts against national security and holding illegal gatherings.
