Six Bahai Adherents Detained in Tehran
By IHRV | February 15, 2010
During a raid by agents from the Ministry of Intelligence, six members of the Bahai community in Iran were detained in their residences at 2:00 AM on Wednesday, February 10. The six detainees are identified as Ashkan Basari, Houtan Sistani, Bashir Ehsani, Maria Ehsani, Romina Zabihian and Allauldin (Niki) Khanjani.
Most of the detainees are related to Bahai adherents who were detained during Ashura Day protests, and their confessions were recently broadcast on government-owned radio and television. Authorities from the Ministry of Intelligence cited participation in the protests as the reason for their arrests.
Mr. Allauldin (Niki) Khanjani is the son of Jamaluldin Khanjani, who is one of seven leaders of the Bahai community in Iran, and he too is being held in a detention center managed by the Ministry of Intelligence.
Readers are reminded that the daughter of Allauldin (Niki) Khanjani and his son-in-law have been held in detention since January 3.
