Continued Detention of Tens of Activists in Ahvaz and Mash-Had Following February 11
By IHRV | February 25, 2010
Following a march by a group of protestors in the city of Ahvaz on February 11, more than 50 people have been detained. In the city of Mash-Had, more than 100 protestors were also detained. Over a week since the widespread protests in these cities, most detained protestors are still being held in detention and in a state of legal limbo, while some of the detainees are being held in undisclosed detention centers.
It has been said that Intelligence agents and security guards used excessive force in dealing with protestors in such a harsh manner that most of the detainees’ family members are concerned about the welfare of their incarcerated loved ones.
In recent days, a number of detainees have been released; nonetheless, most detainees are still being held in detention centers managed by police or the Intelligence Ministry.
In Mash-Had, at least thirty detainees from a February 11 protest are still being held in police and Intelligence detention centers.
