Spread of Hepatitis in Women’s Section 1 inside Evin Prison
By IHRV | July 22, 2010
Section 1 of Evin Prison’s women’s ward is plagued with the spread of Hepatitis,is infested with lice and other disease carrying bugs, lacks a proper cooling system, has poor medical facilities, has constant confrontations between ordinary and political prisoners, and all of these factors have created an intolerable situation for the political prisoners held inside this prison.
The conditions in this section of the prison are at a critical point; however, authorities are refusing to correct the conditions. The presence of lice and other forms of infestation have led some prisoners to shave their heads completely.
Also, with record temperatures and the lack of a cooling system or access to cool water, prisoners are faced with many difficulties.
Previous articles regarding the existence of poor conditions inside prisons where female political prisoners are being held have shed light on the problem, however the sordid conditions still remain unresolved.
