Father’s Prior Jail Record Led to Jail Sentencing

By IHRV | July 22, 2010

The political record of Arman Rezakhani’s father led to the confirmation of Arman’s sentencing by the appeals court.

Mr. Rezakhani, 19, is a gifted student who was detained in late December when he appeared in the office of a widely distributed newspaper to be interviewed in connection with his recent scientific achievements.

In spite of initial promises made by Jafaar Dolatabadi, in which he indicated that that the appeals court would not uphold Mr. Rezakhani’s sentencing, nonetheless, branch 28 went ahead and confirmed Mr. Rezakhani’s three-year jail sentencing.

During the appeals process, the judiciary did not pay any attention to the defense’s argument, and  blocked any interference or presence by the defense lawyer.

Mr. Rezakhani’s family members are convinced that the confirmation of their son’s sentencing is connected to his father’s political activity, and they have protested against the sentencing.
