Salman Sima Receives a Six-Year Jail Term
By IHRV | July 22, 2010
Branch 54 of the appeals court upheld a six-year jail sentencing against Salman Sima, a member of the Iranian Student Organization.
Reza Zarei, a lawyer representing Mr. Sima, announced the news, and said that his client’s request to appeal the sentencing, which had originally been issued by branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court, was turned down and the initial six-year jail sentencing remained unchanged.
Mr. Zarei added: “In our appeal, we cited the initial court’s irregularities, but unfortunately, the court chose to ignore our request”.
Readers are reminded that the main charges against Mr. Sima were connected to his student-related activities in Azad University, dating back to 2002 through 2007.
Also, following last year’s post-election disputes, Mr. Sima was sent to prison twice, in which he collectively spent close to 130 days in detention, and his case regarding these charges has not been brought to court yet.
